1 – First method: a stamp and an inkpad
It is not possible to stamp leather with an ordinary ink pad or a classic Trodat automatic ink pad. Indeed the usual ink only works on paper. For non-absorbent substrates such as leather, use a specific ink or better a special ink already soaked with a special ink.
Two means, therefore:
A – Buy an ink pad specially designed to mark the leather. Inkpad is moistened with special ink for substrates that do not absorb ink.
You have to ink your stamp without pressing too hard on the cushion then stamp on your leather object. Take care not to deposit too much ink, especially the first few times when the ink pad is new.
It is necessary to spread a little ink on the blank ink pad (the ink dries very quickly including on the ink pad, spreading too much would be wasted) then proceed to mark. It is recommended to stamp all your objects at once and not to spread your markings over the course of a day.
In both cases, the marking dries almost instantly and becomes indelible. It is likely that your stamp will be damaged by the special ink. It is recommended that at least two be made. Marking with a Stazon inkpad is obviously easier, less dirty, and faster. For infrequent and only domestic use, this is the best solution.
2 – Second Method: A Fire Mark
Second method: a fire mark, otherwise called a burn mark or a hot mark.
A burn mark is a brass block engraved in reverse upside down of variable size (between 20 and 50 mm in general) which is heated on an independent source (blowtorch, stove, camping gas, and that) then that l ‘we apply on the leather surface.
All logos, graphic forms, or texts can be engraved on a hot brand.
Above, an integrated heating system for the fire-brand.
In general and to facilitate the marking a circle can surround the engraved text. This is the most “professional” way to mark leather durably and aesthetically.
